News has broken that fan-favorite actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.

A Major Comeback for the Franchise

Lawrence and Hutcherson will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. It is believed their cameos will probably be featured in a flash-forward sequence, given that the main film series concluded with their characters living in peace.

This signifies the sixth film in the highly successful Hunger Games franchise.

Delving Into the Prequel

Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a 2025 novel by author Suzanne Collins. It will be the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who was behind the majority of the previous films in the series.

The Plot and New Cast

The film's story are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the brutal 50th Hunger Games.

The film welcomes several prominent actors in key parts:

• Jesse Plemons steps into the role of Plutarch Heavensbee.
• Ralph Fiennes is cast as a younger version of the menacing President Snow.

What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence has been nominated for a Golden Globe for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson stars in the sequel to the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.

Regarding the shoot:

1. Principal photography began in the summer of 2025.
2. Filming reportedly wrapped in November of the same year.
3. The eagerly awaited film is targeting a November 2026 release.
