It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
